Baby doesn’t stop crying…
August 2, 2007
Well what a difference a day makes Poppy woke up this morning and had a feed about 9am and would not feed afterwards until the midwife came round about 1pm. I think both myself and Amy were amazed whent he midwife showed her a different way to breastfeed which i think has been loads better for Amy and in turn has made me a bit more happy knowing that my two ladies are a bit happier.
Poppy began to cry just after the midwife left and has pretty much cried most of the day since then. Its upsetting but i am positive we have done everything we can to make her comfortable and happy, i have been reading about crying and there is so many different reasons they cry and apparently we should learn the different signs but it doesn’t help much when you have only just meet each other and the other person cant speak haha.
C’est la vie, we will manage to get through this first hurdle and the many more that prop up.
Wish us luck!!

Day 3
August 2, 2007
This is a full suit that grandma bought.
So i am sure she will be happy to see Poppy wearing it.
The first night, sleeping and breastfeeding woes.
August 2, 2007
Yesterday we bought Poppy home at about 2pm and no sooner had we arrived home, Amy’s mum (Paula) and dad (mick) arrived closely followed by Kelly, Emma (amy’s sisters), Lydia (amys niece) and Jez (Kelly’s other half) which is probably the most amount of people we have had in the house since we arrived here (other then Amy’s baby shower).
Everyone kept saying how Poppy looks like me and so i have to apologise to Amy for having more dominant genes
but what can you do haha.
My mum and nan arrived as Paula and Mick left and soon after the rest of Amys family left.
Everybody has bought us gifts, clothes and cards and it feels as though we are being spoilt.
Michael & Sabrina (amy’s brother and girlfriend) came round at about 9 and then we stayed awake until about midnight.
Amy has been breastfeeding since Poppy arrived and it has been a bit of a struggle at times, it seems sometimes Poppy is well up for a feed and other times she will go quite a while without a feed which for the non experienced is quite upsetting especially as we know she must be hungry. However, Amy has persevered throughout the night and has managed to feed her a few times.
For anyone reading that may be looking for advice i am sure Amy will agree that even when she got frustrated a few minutes later Poppy would be feeding although sometimes she is just to sleepy and not interested so its probably better to try again later.
Poppy woke a few times through the night but it wasn’t as bad as i thought probably because theres not much i can do at this early stage at least until Amy is expressing milk at which point i can maybe have a bit more of an active part through the night.
Anyways, Day 2 was ok and Day 3 has begun in the same fashion.
Checkout the picture to see Poppy’s outfit this morning

Poppy Skye Born July 31st 2007 @ 22:47
August 1, 2007
Yesterday began with us heading towards the Leicester Royal Infirmary @ around 8.30 to start the induction.
We arrived and they sent us into a small ward where we sat and read some magazines and ate some food and just basically relaxed whilst they did observations on the baby and on the contractions (which at this point were pretty much non existant).
At 11ish they checked the waters and had a look how dialated she was breaking the rest of the sac at the time as it seemed there was still some water in there (1 – 2cm dialated) they put a canular (sp!!) in amy and started the induction which after about 2 hours started to have some effect and amy started to get some small contractions. Throughout this time the midwife looking after us was in and out checking how we were and just making us generally comfortable, we could hear the babys heartbeat which was fast and strong although the baby was wriggling as much as it normally does.
About 3.30pm after lots of contractions the midwife informed us Amy was finally in established labour, they moved us to a birthing suite and amy hit the gas and air, she was in quite a lot of distress over the next 1.5 hours which i have to say i probably found the worse out of the whole birth. There is nothing worse then watching the woman you love going through so much pain, the gas and air seemed to help but it made Amy almost seem drunken and she was not really with it at all by 5 o’clock when her next observations took place.
5.00pm and the obs went fine and the midwife informed us Amy was 3cm dialated. Funnily enough we had joked that the midwife would say that but at this point it no longer seemed funny. Amy didn’t take the news very well and given the induction process and intense contractions, the offer of an epidural was a welcome one.
Amy has been against Epidurals since the beggining of the pregnancy although becoming more open minded as the pregnancy progressed we had talked about it a lot and i know it hurt her pride more then anything to have to accept the epidural. However, Amy as i said to you then, i am so so very proud of you no matter what pain relief you took and in my position it was such a relief for me to watch you come back to the land of the moo’s when the epidural finally started working. Nobody should be upset about having to have an Epidural as it really makes the pregnancy a joy.
The next five hours went by very quickly, Rebecca our wonderful midwife, took care of both of us and was such a delight to have helping us she kept us relaxed and couldn’t do enough to help us through the whole thing. However, unfortunatly Becky had to leave at 9pm as it was the end of her shift although that wasn’t her final duty as at the end of the shift she did the final observations, which, to amy’s relieft, told us that amy was fully dialated.
We had to wait until the new midwife came and then for the baby to move down the canal ever so slightly and then at 10pm Amy started to push. We thought the pushing wasn’t working too well until 10:30 when we started to see a slight part of the babys head several contractions and a bit of heavy pushing later and the babys head was out. Her head was facing down and in an amazing movement she turned her head to face towards me. Amy pushed and panted and out she came, my beautiful baby girl.
10:47pm and Poppy Skye was born. I cut the cord and Poppy was passed to Amy. Poppy had a little feed and was taken to be weighed etc, 7lb 6.5 ounces with 10 fingers and 10 toes.
The whole birth and the time afterwards has amazed me and i find it difficult explaining how happy i am or even how much i love this little person that arrived 24 hours ago. My priorities have changed completly for now at least and i must admit that i have not thought about work or anything other then Amy or Poppy today and as Amy would tell you, that in itself is a miracle.
Thank you Amy for your brilliance during pregnancy and birth and thank you Poppy for completing our family.
Cliche or not, life will never be the same again.

Waters have broken
July 30, 2007
Yesterday Amy’s waters broke.
I left the house to head out to football and would you believe it, upon arriving, i had a phone call which was basically to tell me Amy’s waters had broken.
We went down to the hospital and they informed us that we were correct in our assumption and that it was just a slow “break”.
According to this website only one in ten women’s waters break so i guess it is a “pleasure” for it to happen to us, however, as they told us to go home and we could come back on tuesday to be inducted, if indeed the baby hadn’t arrived by then, well lets say it wasnt as much a pleasure.
Fast forward one day and its Monday, Amy wakes up at 6.00am with pains in her back, which i later learn is called back labour, apparently only 25% of pregnant women have back labour, either way she continued to have this all day and yet we still managed to go to ASDA and do the shopping and B & Q to get some stuff for the garden.
Amy is a trooper, we managed to do the above but i think the pain ended up getting the better of her as she ended up being sick which is horrible to watch really as there is nothing i can do, i look forward to the birth haha.
It’s 20:30 and Amy has had no pain for about 2 hours but i am still convinced the baby will arrive tonight, however, if it isn’t here then never fear the inducing will take place at 7.00am.
Wish me luck
